9. Stone-Age dwelling site in Ukonniemi in Imatra
The Ukonniemi site is an unusual Stone-Age dwelling site because it is located high on a rocky cape. People were living there more than 6000 years ago, during the Combed Ware period. The site has yielded materials related to daily living: pieces of pottery, chips from creating objects, burnt bones, a curved stone chisel, and scrapers, which were used for dressing skins, etc. Some of the stone items found at the dwelling site are made from flint, which is not indigenous to Finland. It was brought to eastern Finland from western and northwestern Russia. The dwelling site overlooks a beautiful view of Lake Immalanjärvi.
